Nice Chianti for the price, smooth, not too tart
This is the only Chianti wine we like. It is far above in flavor compared to many others.
A bit thin and not "Superiore" to anything. I was hoping for a country cousin of the higher end Ruffinos, but found it unrelated. Although reasonably priced, which is why I took a chance, there are better values at this price point.
Wine Maker Notes
Il Superiore Chianti Superiore was recently introduced into Ruffino's portfolio and represents a precious complement to the winery's rich Chianti selection, reinterpreted in a new style which reflects the demanding taste of the modern consumer.
Il Superiore Chianti Superiore is produced by grapes selected in low yield vineyards located in the Chianti area. No more that 7 tons of grapes per hectare are cultivated in these vineyards. Such a yield is even lower than the one produced in most Chianti Classico vineyards. 75% Sangiovese (minimum required by DOCG) and 25% other red varieties including Canaiolo Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as permitted by Chianti Superiore regulations.
