Top 100 Wine Spectator: A black-cherry coloured wine with slight violet hues. High aromatic intensity, with aromas of ripe dark fruit, fine smoked notes with toasted aromas coming through. On the palate it is meaty and crisp, with a presence of well-polished tannins. Moderate acidity, with a long, pleasant finish in which the oak can be detected more distinctly.

Is this REALLY a Wine Spectator top 100 or have you made an error?? this wine has an 86 rating by Wine Spectator to the best of my knowledge. Please point me inthe direction of the listing that shows it to be a top 100

I completely agree. WS top 100 for 2013 comes out May. Does WC have some inside scoop? It is not good when an unsupported claim is made to sell a wine.

Perhaps they erred and meant the Reserve which can be purchased in a local wine shop for $4 less than WC's price.

Thanks for the comments, I almost ordered this after reading WC's description. I will be re-thinking all purchases from them in the future if they have to result to false info to sell overpriced wine. I have purchased for years from them, guess it might be time to find a new distributor.

I bought a case based on the WC write up. It's certainly not barrel wash but I could have done better for my $120. This is the second time in recent memory that WC has misrepresented their offering. I take some responsibility for not checking it out first, but a reputable company would not do this. There are other sources for my purchases, maybe it's time to move on.

Ratings vs. Tasting...

I rarely let ratings stop me from buying wine. Those who shop only 90 rated wines cheat themselves out of the excitement of discovering some incredible products. It all comes down to the taste. Pure and simple. Just my op.

Black cherry and roasted plum fruit with deep flavors of earth, cigar box and orange zest, and a faint note of licorice. Medium bodied, ripe fruit, easy on the palate with supple tannins and soft acidity. Very satisfying with an inherent confidence that comforts. She's settled into her beauty, she has; that youth shines elsewhere is of no concern, as she will always have this quality, the one we know as "it." Tempranillo. A find at $25; an absolute must-have at under $10. A very good wine. More reviews at (Reviewed 12/21/13)

Excellent Rioja for the money.
I bought a case in my local wine-store, you may be able to pick this one up for around 8 or $9

I bought this from Wine Chateaux on previous offering. I have yet to taste; but will tonight based on these postings. Does anybody know of other unsupported claims WC has made? I buy often from them.

The last time I saw 86 was in the top 100. I don't think WC said it was THE top 100.

I did purchase a case prior to reading these comments and I'm disappointed if in fact Wine Chateau has stated this to be a top 100 wine, if it is not. I bought the wine for that very reason. I did contact them via email and they have yet to respond. I received the wine today and have not tasted it yet. I'd like feedback from chateau regarding this.

Notes on the Marques de Riscal Rioja Proximo 750ML 2009

Wine Review One of the latest bottle offerings from this storied Rioja producer, the Proximo is crafted from predominantly younger Tempranillo vines, and you immediately get a sense of the vibrancy of this youthful fruit as soon as you pop the cork. Still, though, its got what you're looking for in a good Rioja-dark cherry fruit, earth and leather, great food-friendly acidity, and the reasonable price-point for which Rioja is renowned.

Technical Notes Wines of the Herederos de Marqués de Riscal has always been a leading and pioneering company in the wine producing sector. In 1858, it became the first winery in the Rioja to produce wines following the Bordeaux method and in 1972, it was the first winery to promote the Rueda Designation of Origin, where it produced its famous Marqués de Riscal white wines. Marqués de Riscal sells its products in over 70 countries and its wines have enjoyed the highest international distinctions as well as numerous awards and mentions in the media.
