The Grenache grape varietal has its origins in the dry and arid regions of central Spain, where it continues to thrive to this day under the blazing sun of this region. However, its popularity and versatility has meant that these purple skinned grapes have spread all over the Old and New World and have become of the most widely planted grape varietals on earth. The tightly bunched, round fruit of the Grenache vine can be rigorous and prodigious in the correct conditions, but is often struggling against various types of rot and mildew. Thanks to modern techniques for avoiding such problems, Grenache grape farmers now enjoy strong and high quality yields which they can use to produce the distinctive light bodied and spicy wines associated with this grape.

For those who are wondering, the label is pink and the enticing name is in black script. It is not the most robust Grenache, however, at this price, its worth grabbing. It is a conversation starter and your friends will have some fun with the name. R Wines reminds us that wine drinking is supposed to be fun and bring people together. The taste is like strawberry jam with spicy berry probably from the heat relative to the alcohol content, . Great to serve with appetizers, like pigs in a blanket, stuffed mushrooms, and eggplant rollatini.

Notes on the R Wines Bitch 750ML 2009

Tasting Notes Darkcherry and raspberry aromas are underpinned with spicy, peppery notes with hints of anise. An approachablewine with vibrant, sweet, juicy fruit and great natural acid balance.

Wine Maker Notes With over sixteen thousand hectares of Australian land now under vine, Australia has become something of a world leader in regards to wine production. One of Australia's key attributes to their success has been their willingness to leave traditional vineyard practices to one side, and develop techniques which are perfectly suited to a New World country. Modern Australian wineries take into consideration the climate and the unique soil types which cover much of their country, and have had fantastic results from cross-breeding programs and blending practices which make the most of the grape varietals which thrive most successfully there, notably the Shiraz and Chardonnay grapes. In recent years, Australia has been lauded as the 'most influential' wine producing country in the world, and the rest of the New World is looking down under for inspiration, and the ability to produce comparable fine wines on their own terrain.

Technical Notes Blended from a selection of unoaked Grenache wines from various subregions of Aragon and Navarra wherethe climate is continental and relatively dry. Soils are typically alluvial, but zones of rich red-brown loams andwhite limestone are intermixed with very rocky slate at higher altitudes. Grenache (Garnacha) survives herewithout the need for irrigation. Yields are typically low and this, combined with a historical selection of smallberried, deeply colored clones, produces wines of a more "masculine" expression of the variety. Gentlehandling, soft pressing, and maturation without oak all combine to preserve natural fruit expression.
