Color: Bright light yellow with subtle lime notes. Nose: Elegant aromas of sweet citrus fruit, sweet flowers, tropical fruits and subtle spices. Palate: Very round and elegant mouth feel with good volume, a lively acidity and a long persistent finish. Service and Food Pairing: Serve at 12° C (53° F). Ideal companion for medium seasoned dishes, fish or chicken.
Wine Maker Notes
The 2008 - 2009 vintage brought back the rain after a very dry and cold winter in the 2007 -2008 season. Spring was dryer than normal and there were perfect conditions of flowering and berry set. So the vintage 2009 started with a very nice potential. Summer brought good conditions and Atalayas vineyard had average maximum of 27,4° C. We harvested our Chardonnay one week in advance on March 16th at night.
As a general winemaking philosophy, in our Cuvée Alexandre Chardonnay we look for elegance, balance and ageing potential. In 2009, we did 47% of whole cluster pressing and 53% of maceration into the press before fermenting. 68% was fermented and aged in French barrels for 10 month (part news and part used) and 32% in stainless steel tanks. 20% malolactic fermentation was made. The result is a well integrated oak, a balanced palate with an elegant structure and integrated oak that enhances the natural fruit and freshness of the grapes.
