Technical Notes As a young man, Samuele Sebastiani emigrates form Franeta, near Lucca, Italy to America. After living in New York for a brief period, he made his way to California. He began working at various jobs, ending up in the cobblestone quarry on Shcoken Hills, north of Sonoma.

A winery is born…Samuele had saved enough to buy land, grow grapes and begin making fine wine: a craft he learned as a young boy in Italy. For many years, the winery made only bulk wine, to be sold and branded by other, larger wineries in the area.

The youngest of Samuele and Elvira's three children, August Sebastiani soon gained a reputation as one of America's most skilled and innovative winemakers. August and his wife, Sylvia, purchase the family's winery from his father's estate shortly after Samuele's death. August grows the winery as he begins to sell name branded wine to the general public introduces premium varietal wines in popularly priced magnums.
