Grat value, excellent drinking white. Not too oaky after all. I'm glad I tried it.
ColorIntense, bright golden yellow. AromaIntense and complex with delicate notes of honey and ripe tropical fruits that recall banana, pineapple, and passion fruit, along with notes of toast and vanilla. PalateCrisp and refreshing with good balance and a long and pleasing finish.
Wine Maker Notes
Santa Ema traces its roots back to 1956 when “Don” Pedro and his son, Felix Pavone-Arbea, began making wine and selling it to restaurants and shops. This was one of the more satisfying tastings from Chile: a dependable set of wines with some excellent entry-level varietals that punched above their weight. More thought seems to have gone into these wines that exhibited fine balance and freshness and, to be honest, it was only at the premium end that they succumbed to excessive new oak that blotted out what appeared to be some excellent fruit. Still, overall, Santa Ema is certainly producing wines that show what Cachapoal can do? in the right hands.
The quality of the wines of Alto Maipo is one of the most consistent it has given Chilean viticulture and indeed, the great ambassador of the national red. An important pillar supporting this quality lies in the composition of their soils are usually defined as medium to low fertility ideal for growing grapes and therefore to obtain wines mature, full-bodied and consistency.
Drink with sauced full-bodied fish, shellfish, grilled rabbit, white meats, and ripe cheeses.
