Chateau Croix Esperance Lussac Saint-Emilion Grand Bordeaux 2005 750ml

Chateau Croix Esperance Lussac Saint-Emilion Grand Bordeaux

90 Points Wine Spectator: Has smoky black fruit character, with a prominent charred oak note. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a tasty medium finish. There's lots of oak, but also some good fruit.

90 Points Wine Advocate: Dense ruby/purple-colored, seriously structured, and tannic, the 2005 Croix Esperance transcends its lowly appellation. Such deep, concentrated flavors of black fruits, forest floor, roasted herbs, and licorice are usually only found in a much more expensive wine. Made from 100% Merlot.

Owner Bernard Magrez is a dynamic force not just in Bordeaux be in the entire wine world. He purchased Chateau Pape Clement and transformed it from an poor overrated performer to a super star. Working closely with famed consultant Michel Rolland he amassed an array of chateaux and wineries around the world and consistently produces wines that garner adoring fans and critical acclaim. He planted the 100% Merlot vines at Chateau Coix Esperance some 20 years ago with very dense vine placement in order to keep yields low. That, along with green harvests, a triage in the vineyard and one at the winery insures that only the ripest, most sound grapes make it into the finished product. Aging is in French oak 60% new for 16 to 18 months.

This has all the quality of a much more expensive Bordeaux. Good finish and tasty on the tongue.
