Tor Di Vento Tor Di Vento Barolo D.O.C.G 2008
This 2008 Barolo is striking. It shows marvelous delineation in it aromatics, tremendous breadth on the palate and fabulous balance. As always, the Ornato is a plush Barolo, with tons of Serralunga character and muscle. Rose petals, crushed flowers and spices add complexity to the dark fruit, while the French oak is very well-integrated.

This is thin, with very little Nebbiolo character. Yes, it is cheap. But it reminds you how cheap it is when you drink it. A company like this should not be selling Barolo like this. And what Ornato are they referring to in their "review?" Ornato is a vineyard owned by Pio Cesare, who does not make crap like this. What is up with you guys....dishonest at best. Avoid.

Quite satisfying. Went really great with a sliced peach, Havarti cheese, fig newtons and sliced Sopressata on the back porch.

Notes on the Tor Di Vento Barolo D.O.C.G 750ML 2008

Technical Notes Barolo is a red Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) wine produced in the northern Italian region of Piedmont. It is made from the Nebbiolo grape and is often described as one of Italy's greatest wines. The zone of production extends into the communes of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba and parts of the communes of Cherasco, Diano d'Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, Novello, Roddi, Verduno, all in the province of Cuneo, south-west of Alba. Only vineyards planted in primarily calcareous-clay soils in the hills with suitable slopes and orientations are considered suitable for Barolo production. Barolo is often described as having the aromas of tar and roses, and the wines are noted for their ability to age and usually take on a rust red tinge as they mature. When subjected to aging of at least five years before release, the wine can be labeled a Riserva.
