Technical Notes The history of Sutter Home Winery dates back to the late 1800's, when a Swiss-German immigrant named John Thomann established a small winery and distillery in the heart of California's Napa Valley. Although much has changed for the Trincheros and Sutter Home, the motto and philosophy originated by their father more than a half-century ago remains the same: "A great product for a fair price." The family's cohesion kept Sutter Home together and eventually made it the success it is today. After resurrecting Sutter Home in 1948, the Trincheros struggled to keep the family winery afloat, imbuing it with the values of hard work, ingenuity, humility and integrity that have characterized them ever since. Each member of the family played a vital role in keeping the business running: Mother Mary Trinchero kept the books, younger children Vera and Roger helped on the bottling line, while older brother Bob assisted his dad, Mario, and uncle John in cleaning out tanks and barrels. The family's cohesion kept Sutter Home together and eventually made it the success it is today. With its creation of White Zinfandel in the early 1970s and the introduction of high-quality, affordably priced varietal wines during the 1980s and '90s, Sutter Home became a household name and the second largest, independent family-run winery in the U.S.
Food Pairing This graceful, falvorful Cabernet Sauvignon can be enjoyed now and makes an excellent accompaniment to chicken dishes, red meats, game, and mildly seasoned pastas.
