Carrying the California appellation, this wine is sourced from vineyards up and down the state, selected for style and consistency. We balanced the dark intensity of older vines with the finesse and elegance of younger vines, giving the wine depth and personality. A majority of the grapes came from Lodi, an area with a history for producing Zinfandel. The warm climate and cool breezes of this area are ideal for this varietal, which needs an extra nudge of heat and hang time to ripen fully. The remaining vineyards are situated up and down the northern coastline, showing similar characteristics and vibrant fruit ideally suited for this wine.
Wine Maker Notes
Over the last 33 years of producing wines (for which this wine gets its XXXIII designation), we have experienced a lot of unexpected surprises, but our Zinfandel cuvee is never one of them. This wine is crafted to be consistently reliable, showing bright fruits, supple body and inviting approachability. We used small lots during fermentation, extracting a depth of flavors and aromas with frequent punch downs and pump overs. To maintain the focus on the fruit, we minimized oak contact, giving the wine just enough time with the barrels to lend structure and subtle spice notes. Prior to bottling, we blended in a small amount of Petite Sirah to boost the fruit flavors and add structure.
Similar to many European wines, the Rosenblum Zinfandel Cuvée XXXII doesn’t carry a specific vintage, allowing the winemaker to create a blend that reflects his ideal wine style. The result is a well-balanced, multilayered wine that can be enjoyed immediately upon release.
