Technical Notes Built: 1779. Current Owner: Suntory Production Capacity: 2,00,000 liters. House style: Smoky, salty and sometimes with a perfumed character. Located in the town of the same name, on the shores of Loch Indaal. Bowmore distillery was awarded 'The Distiller of the Year Award' by the International Spirits Challenge in 2000. The spirit that flows through its stills is one of the most lightly peated of the Islay whiskies. Despite using malt with a phenol content of over 20 parts per million, the spirit can stand up well to fairly lengthy maturation in rich sherry casks and the highly sought after Black Bowmore is the perfect example of this.
