Beyond the Anejo, the extra aging of the two tequilas at the top of the line add some interesting notes, and, accordingly, five years in oak make the experience of Don Julio Real anything but boring. Its nose is filled with oak and herbs with a hint of citrus while the palate wavers between rich dark chocolate-caramel and a peppery note which makes an additional appearance in the finish.
Most often I cannot afford a Tequila this expensive but I had this at my boss's party the other day for 4th of July and I was blown away. No wonder it costs this much. Such a refined tequila compared to so many out there. One day I would afford a bottle for myself.
What does this taste like?
"For the ultimate tequila experience, sip it neat in a specialized tequila glass. Don Julio REAL is produced from a highly selective batch of only the best estate-grown agave and its second distillation is in a special still known as Pot Still 6, which refines the flavors even further. Rich, sweet aromas of caramel and toffee layered with a fresh vanilla fragrance and hints of red fruits like cherry mixed with caramel and almonds. Chocolate tones along with cinnamon and a light touch of wood."
Technical Notes Don Julio González began his journey in the world of tequila in 1942. He soon realized that to create a tequila that stands apart, one must control every aspect of the process, from the cultivation of the agave to the bottling of the final product. He then established his distillery, La Primavera, and spent nearly forty years perfecting the craft that would produce extraordinary tequila with every bottle. At first, Don Julio only shared his tequila with friends. But soon word spread, and Tequila Don Julio quickly became the most sought after tequila in Mexico. Today, the world is learning what Mexico already knows: that it is passion above all else that makes a great tequila.
