Aromas of orange peel, nutmeg and mace as well as toasted oats all play on the nose. Notes of clover honey, honeysuckle and roasted nuts all mingle under a blanket of moderate smoke. The mouthfeel is silken and elegant.
I'm not a huge Scotch drinker but this was a great gift given to me from a childhood friend and I was pleasantly surprised as to how I got to love Scotch now. We finished the whole bottle over dinner and great conversations.
In 1901, James Buchanan received an order to deliver a special whisky to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII. An exceptionally rich, smooth whisky was required for such regal entertainment. Buchanan's Red Seal is inspired by the original blend for this exceptional whisky created over 100 years ago.
James Buchanan's recipe has been retrieved from the archives of the Buchanan's House and with that inspiration Buchanan's Red Seal was created. Buchanan's Red Seal contains some of the rarest casks of Dalwhinnie whisky, as well as a small quantity of specially selected casks. These specially selected casks are double matured, first in refill casks, then in charred casks to increase sweetness and smoothness.
