Taz Winery Syrah 2005 750ml

Taz Winery Syrah

The 2007 growing season saw a warm spring and early summer with little rain, which provided ideal growing conditions for our Syrah. Modest crop levels along with the perfect weather allowed for an early harvest with these grapes coming into the winery in early October. The Syrah grapes arrived with wonderfully concentrated flavors, fine tannin structure and with the expected deep inky color concentration. In a secluded canyon less than twenty miles from the Pacific Ocean, along the Santa Maria Bench is a steep, craggy, hillside block of Syrah we affectionately call Goat Rock. Located just beyond the famed Bien Nacido Vineyard, Goat Rock is at the back of a box canyon where the temperature can be up to five degrees warmer than the opening. In the late afternoon, the Pacific breeze cools the hillsides off extending the growing season and preserving acidity. The 2007 Goat Rock Syrah is a dark inky color with a dense texture. The wine opens with bright aromas of blackberry and ripe boysenberry. The aromas lead to a rich palate of juicy black fruits, black pepper and brown spice. For maximum flavor and care, the grapes are brought into the winery and fermented in small five ton fermenters; punchdowns are done by hand. Each lot spends 11 months in 75 percent new French oak to add to the complexity and mouthfeel
