Merlot is arguably the most important grape grown on the North Fork. Our conditions here are favorable to producing abalanced, rich and complex wine. The excellent 2007 vintage produced a wine of medium-full body and intensecolor. The Reserve is deep, brooding and powerful. It features beautiful aromas of cherry, blackberry, briar, vanilla andhints of toasty oak. The tannins are ripe and supple. The acidity is uplifting and refreshing, and balances a dense coreof red and black fruit flavors. This wine is drinkable now, and will easily age for at least ten years.
The nose offers intense red cherry and plum aromas with quite a bit of toasty oak and vanilla. After a few hours of air time, light hints of spring herbs emerge, but are still dominated by red fruit and oak.
Medium bodied and mouth filling in the flavor department, the palate shows red raspberry and red cherry candy flavors, with lots of oak and vanilla. The tannins are ripe and well integrated, but don't provide enough structure to make this a no-brainer for long-term aging.
