Arak is a Mediterranean Styled aniseed flavored liqueur. Raki, Zivania and Ouzo are similar alcoholic drinks related to Arak, popular in Turkey, Cyprus, and Greece. It is an aperitif and usually served before a meal to stimulate the appetite. Traditional Arak in its pure form is colorless. Stronger than many other traditional liqueurs, as water or ice is added, Arak takes on a milky, opaque color, hence the nickname “Milk of the lions” Traditionally, Arak is also mixed with fruit juices or teas.
