Delightfully smooth, as one expects from a top-drawer, 18-year-old Scotch. But perhaps too well-mannered for a Laphroig. Oh, what have they done to the wild, sea-squally, iodine mouth-scourer Laphroigs of yore?
Older expressions are typically more mellow, more balanced than their younger brethren. If you want the unruly aspect of this distillery, get the 10, if you want something more mature, get the 18--both are excellent choices, but it just depends on the mood you're in.
