Wine Review Wine Enthusiast December 15, 2010 95 Points "Siepi" Toscana IGT 2007 - 95 Points & Cellar Selection, Wine Enthusiast------------------------------------------Siepi is a gorgeous super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Merlot that exhibits richness, intensity and purity. This is a luscious and opulent expression with deep aromas of cherry, blackberry, chocolate, espresso bean and spice. The finish is super long and delicious. ------------------------------------------ International Wine Cellar Jul/Aug 2010 91 Points "Siepi" Toscana IGT 2006 - 91 Points, International Wine Cellar------------------------------------------Dark red with a paler rim. Musky aromas of earth, underbrush and tobacco, with livelier redcurrant and blueberry aromas emerging with air. The densely textured palate shows more red fruits than black, with complicating hints of cigar box and balsamic vinegar. The wine's seamless tannins contribute to a surprisingly forward impression considering its youth, but this is a very impressive mouthfeel that offers the advantage of early accessibility. ------------------------------------------ Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines 2010 "Siepi" Toscana IGT 2006 - Tre Bicchieri, Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines------------------------------------------... The wine, from a six-hectare vineyard selection, is a half sangiovese-half merlot blend. The nose tempts with black berry fruit enriched with chocolate and vanilla notes before the palate unveils its essential concentration in dense flavours that can only improve with the passage of time.------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator October 31, 2009 95 Points Siepi 2006 - 95 Points, Wine Spectator------------------------------------------Intense aromas of blackberry, black licorice and dried flowers. Full-bodied, with fine, silky tannins and a long, rich finish. Polished and well-made. One of the best ever from this producer.------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator September 9, 2009 95 Points Siepi - Multi-Vintage Reviews------------------------------------------Intense aromas of blackberries, black licorice and dried flowers. Full-bodied, with silky and fine tannins and a long, rich finish. Polished and well made. One of the best ever from here.------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate August 2009 92 Points Siepi 2006 - 92 Points, Wine Advocate------------------------------------------The 2006 Siepi is particularly beautiful in this vintage. The wine reveals tons of clarity, depth and precision in its violets, blackberries, minerals and French oak, with remarkable balance in between the fruit, acid and tannins. This full-bodied, vibrant Siepi could use a few years in bottle, but the wine’s impeccable balance means it can be enjoyed sooner than that, especially if the bottle is opened well in advance. This is a terrific effort from proprietor Filippo Mazzei, consulting oenologist Carlo Ferrini and their team. Siepi is Sangiovese and Merlot that spent 18 months in French oak.------------------------------------------ Wine & Spirits April 2009 92 Points & Year's Best Siepi 2005------------------------------------------From Mazzei's historic estate in Chianti Classico, this 50/50 blend of sangiovese and merlot grows in marl and sandstone soils. The wine's tannins feel ironclad when first poured, then high-toned red berries emerge with air, enriched by notes of sandalwood and spice. Cellar this for up to a decade, or decant a bottle for braised pork shoulder.------------------------------------------ Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines November 1, 2008 ------------------------------------------An unprecedented 14 wines from Palm Bay International’s Italian portfolio have been awarded the Tre Bicchieri designation by Gambero Rosso/Slow Food Guide to Italian Wines - Italy’s premier wine review. Tre Bicchieri ("Three Glasses”) is widely regarded as Italy’s highest accolade where its nation’s wines are concerned. ------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator October 15, 2008 92 Points Siepi 2005 - 92 Points, Wine Spectator------------------------------------------Shows fantastic aromas of crushed raspberry and flowers, with an olive undertone. Full-bodied, with superrefined, silky tannins and a long, long finish. Caressing and beautiful. ------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate June 2008 89 Siepi 2005 - 89 Points, The Wine Advocate------------------------------------------The estate has done very well with its 2005s. The 2005 Siepi, equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot, spent 19 months in French oak...with air it gains remarkable harmony...Sweet dark fruit, new leather, spices, earthiness and licorice nuance emerge as this full-bodied, intense wine comes together in the is an excellent and attractive wine.------------------------------------------ Wine Enthusiast April 2008 94 Points ------------------------------------------There's just something about this 50-50 Sangiovese-Merlot blend that makes it absolutely irresistible. The fullness, the harmony, the intensity of aromas and the long, fruity persistency on the finish work together to produce one of the great modern super Tuscans. ------------------------------------------ Wine Enthusiast April 2008 93 Points Siepi 2003------------------------------------------Fragrant, floral Sangiovese and plush Merlot are combined in equal parts to produce one of Italy's most appealing wines with rich extraction and gorgeous, long-lasting fruit flavors. This rich and modern blend never lets the 2003 heat get the upper hand.------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator October 15, 2007 94 Points Siepi 2004 - 94 Points, Wine Spectator------------------------------------------Has lots of berry, coffee and spice character, with hints of black licorice. Full-bodied, with rich, chewy tannins and loads of chocolate, coffee and berry character. Lasts for minutes on the palate. Big and broad-shouldered. This is the best Siepi since its first vintage.------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator October 31, 2005 93 points Siepi 2003 - 93 Points, Wine Spectator------------------------------------------Extremely pretty blackberry and dark chocolate character with just a hint of spice. Full-bodied, with juicy tannins and a long finish. Soft and round. Very balanced and racy. Lots of structure. Merlot and Sangiovese. ------------------------------------------
