Marques de Riscal Rioja Gran Reserva 2005
BOTTLE SIZE: 750ml
A dark cherry color with good depth. Balsamic aromas with hints of ripe fruit, complex and spicy. The attack is fresh and light, with soft, rounded tannins. The finish proves persistent with some reminders of toasted oak. Its passage through the mouth is pleasant and elegant, fresh and easy to drink.

Deep garnet to brick red color. The aromatics reveal a wine that has matured gracefully with youthful notes still present while integrated sophisticated barrel notes with deep black cherry and plum notes. The palate concurs delivering a rich, round center with waves of ripe and semi-tart fruits with loads of spice, roasted nuts, earth, herb, and oak in support. Terrific! Chairman’s Trophy

The 2005 Gran Reserva is a blend of 90% Tempranillo, 8% Graciano and 2% Mazuelo from their own vineyards as well as from grapes purchased from vine growers in the Rioja Alvesa area. They only include fruit from over 80-year-old vines in this wine, which ages for 32 months in oak barrels and another three years in bottle before being released. It is still quite dark and unevolved, showing notes of dark cherries, plums and plenty of spices, hinting at leather and truffles. The palate starts showing classical flavors of aged Rioja and comes through as a powerful traditional wine. Drink 2014-2022.
