Notes on the Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Vigna Asinone 750ML 2006

Tasting Notes A powerful full-bodied red that balances volume with depth, the wine offers lovely, round notes of roasted plums, berries, black cherries, fresh herbs and mocha. Firm but vibrant tannins and acids provide lift and structure. Hints of tar, smoke and licorice with a slight undertone of oak linger on the long and creamy finish.

Wine Maker Notes Grapes are harvested by hand into small crates. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature for 20-25 days. The wine is aged for a period of 16-18 months in French barriques.

Wine Review Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines 2011 Asinone Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2007 - 2010 Tre Bicchieri Award------------------------------------------Tre Bicchieri for Asinone, a result that leaves no doubts on the quality of this splendid wine.------------------------------------------ International Wine Cellar Jul/Aug 2010 92 Points "Asione" Vino Nobile di Montepulciano D.O.C.G. 2006 - 92 Points, International Wine Cellar------------------------------------------Deep ruby. Aromas of roasted plum, dark berries, fresh herbs and mocha. Suave on entry, then fresh and energetic in the middle palate, with noteworthy intensity to the black cherry, herbal and licorice flavors. Finishes with a hint of sexy vanillin oak and a lovely creamy texture. ------------------------------------------ La Cucina Italiana April 2010 Asinone 2006 - Suggested Wines from Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, La Cucina Italiana------------------------------------------Poliziano's single-vineyard Asinone is full-bodied in every way, but all of its earthy, smoky, licorice nuances are balanced by rich, round, sweet tannins that make it perfectly ready to drink. ------------------------------------------ Wine Enthusiast March 2010 92 Points Asinone 2006 - 92 Points, Wine Enthusiast------------------------------------------This is a sophisticated and very modern approach to Vino di Nobile di Montepulciano with an evident oak intervention that adds layers of spice and smoke to a rich palate of forest berry and blackberry. This wine is smooth and dense in the mouth and offers very impressive staying power. Give it another five years of cellar aging. ------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator October 31, 2009 90 Points Asinone 2006 - 90 Points, Wine Spectator------------------------------------------Offers sweet berry notes, with hints of licorice and flowers. Full-bodied, with bright acidity and a berry and citrus fruit aftertaste. Clean and crisp. A chewy style, with a lot of new wood.------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate August 2009 91 Points Asinone 2006 - 91 Points, Wine Advocate------------------------------------------The estate's single-vineyard 2006 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Asinone is sweet, round and harmonious. The wine possesses lovely depth and volume in a full-bodied yet approachable style. Tar, smoke, licorice and earthiness linger on the long finish.------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate August 2009 92 Points Asinone 2005 - 92 Points, Wine Advocate------------------------------------------The 2005 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Asinone is brighter, fresher and more energetic than the 2006. This focused, vibrant red offers plenty of floral red fruit intermingled with tobacco, licorice and new leather. Today the wine comes across as needing a few years in bottle, but this is a wonderful version of one of Montepulciano's elite bottlings.------------------------------------------ Wine Enthusiast May 1, 2009 91 Points Asinone 2004 - 91 Points, Wine Enthusiast------------------------------------------This is a bold, meaty wine with thick aromas of smoke, cured meat, mesquite wood, ripe blueberry and sweet cherry. It makes a grand impression on both the nose and the tongue because of its exceptional density, its supple texture and its impressive length.------------------------------------------ Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines November 1, 2008 Asinone 2005 - Tre Bicchieri------------------------------------------An unprecedented 14 wines from Palm Bay International’s Italian portfolio have been awarded the Tre Bicchieri designation by Gambero Rosso/Slow Food Guide to Italian Wines - Italy’s premier wine review. Tre Bicchieri ("Three Glasses”) is widely regarded as Italy’s highest accolade where its nation’s wines are concerned. ------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate June 2008 92 Asinone 2004 & 2005------------------------------------------The single-vineyard 2004 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Asinone reveals beguiling aromatics. With air, layers of vibrant dark fruit, tar, smoke, graphite and licorice develop in the glass as this beautifully-balanced wine struts its stuff. Ideally a few years of bottle age are warranted, but this wine is so appealing at the moment that readers might have a hard time waiting. I am confident that in a few years this wine will be even better. The wine's finesse, tannins and texture are clearly those of a first class wine. ------------------------------------------ Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian Wines 2008 ------------------------------------------Gambero Rosso presents the English and German version of Vini d'Italia 2008, the best-seller book about Italian wines that has become a mainstay for both professionals and wine-lovers. A unique opportunity to get know and to taste a wide selection of the best Italian wines.------------------------------------------ Guide to Italian Wines Spring 2007 5 Stars - Outstanding ------------------------------------------The premier bottling of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from Poliziano is Asinone, from a single vineyard. First produced in 1983, this wine always represents thebest qualities of the vintage and the 2004 is quite special. 100% PrugnoloGentile. Deep ruby red-light purple with aromas of black cherry, licorice, blackplum and vanilla. Full-bodied with excellent concentration. Great fruitpersistence and a beautifully structured finish with lively acidity, refinedtannins and nicely integrated oak. This is so well made and has a great futureahead of it. Right now, you can enjoy the wine for its delicious fruit andgorgeous aromas, but this will be at its best in 12-15 years. It is difficult to sayif this is the finest bottling of Asinone to date, but it certainly ranks with the1999 and 2001 as superb examples!------------------------------------------

Technical Notes When released in 1983, Asinone was the first single vineyard wine produced in Tuscany. The grapes are sourced from the best and oldest estate parcels – a 22 acre plot that was planted in 1963 and a 12 acre parcel that was planted in 1991, both of which are situated at 1,115 feet on soft clay soils. Asinone is only produced in the best years and in limited quantities; the blend is driven based on the vintage and is either 100% Prugnolo Gentile or 90% Prugnolo Gentile with approximately 10% of Colorino and Merlot. The hand-picked grapes were macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks for 20-25 days and matured for 16-18 months in French oak barriques.

Food Pairing Enjoy with grilled meats, game and aged cheese.
