Notes on the Recanati Petite Sirah Zinfandel Reserve 750ML 2009

Wine Maker Notes Grapes are harvested by hand from early September through mid-October. Immediately following the crush, the must is chilled to 60ºF in route to the fermentation vats. The crushed grapes then cold macerate for three days to cultivate their complex taste and singular fragrance. After three weeks of fermentation, the wine is transferred to small French oak barrels where it is left to age for 17 months.

Wine Review Wine Enthusiast April 2011 Petite Sirah-Zinfandel 2009 - Wine Enthusiast------------------------------------------A heady, woody and earthy offering fromRecanati that offers loads of bramble, dark cherry and black plum aromas and flavors. Fresh and vibrant with a juicy core livening up the mediumweight mouth. Cherry skins and fresh coffee staythrough the close.------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate February 2010 88 Points Reserve Petite Sirah-Zinfandel 2006 - 88 Points, Wine Advocate------------------------------------------The 2006 Petite Sirah-Zinfandel is Petite Sirah dominated (80%), with the rest Zinfandel. It is a charming wine, aged for 8 months in a blend of American and French oak. It is easy going... easy to like and flavorful, one of the wines I initially liked most from Recanati. Its Petite Sirah vines reach 30 years in age. There are notes of game once past the oak overlay and some intensity on the finish. This is pretty respectable and may age better than seems apparent on first taste. It is typically the wine in the lineup that I think is rather underrated and overlooked. This will appeal more to Rhone drinkers than California drinkers, I suspect, not withstanding the blend and the initial hit of oak. ------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate February 2010 89 Points Reserve Petite Sirah-Zinfandel 2007 - 89 Points, Wine Advocate------------------------------------------The 2007 Petite Sirah - Zinfandel Reserve, up to 90% Petite Sirah this year (from 30 year old vines), shows its American oak at the outset (it was aged in a combination of French and American oak), but it is sexy and delicious, and the oak integrates rather well. With air, some brambles comes out and it shows surprisingly good acidity, a good demeanor and some character... it is a pleasure to drink, easy going and very tasty, another good example of the winery’s nice work with Petite Sirah. It will likely be at its best in the earlier half of its useful life, but should hold decently. ------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator 2009 Reserve Petite Sirah-Zinfandel 2006 - Wine Spectator------------------------------------------... with modest red fruit flavors.------------------------------------------ Vinalies Internationales March 2009 Gold Medal *Recanati Multi-Review Flier - Vinalies Internationales------------------------------------------The competition is the official competition of the French winemakers association and is one of largest and most important competitions in France and the world. Wines are judged by 100 professional judges from around the world in seven categories (dry red wine, dry rose wine, dry white wine, sweet wine, liqueur wine, sparkling wine and spirits). Gold and silver medals are given to a maximum 30% of the participants’ wines. ------------------------------------------ Santé January 2009 Reserve Petite Sirah-Zinfandel 2006 - Sante------------------------------------------Nose of leather with hints of dried leavesand spices. Medium bodied and slightlyoaky with mellow tannins and a lengthyfinish. Samosas.------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator 2008 Reserve Petite Sirah-Zinfandel 2005 - Wine Spectator ------------------------------------------Juicy, with raspberry and plum flavors, followed by a cream-and-spice-filled finish. ------------------------------------------ Jewish Georgian March-April 2008 ------------------------------------------Recanati 2005 Petit Syrah Zinfandel is barrel aged for eight month and is a fragrant, full bodied, dark garnet wine that goes well with hearty dishes.------------------------------------------ Wine Enthusiast April 2008 ------------------------------------------Fairly young and needing some time to flesh out, this blend still has much to offer now. The firm tannins play well against the rich vanilla and spice notes; throw in some serious black cherry and raspberry, and the wine comes into focus beautifully.------------------------------------------

Food Pairing Savor with rich stews, red meats and hearty pasta dishes. Also superb with hard, aged cheeses. For maximum enjoyment, decant for one hour prior to drinking and serve at cool room temperature.
