The 2007 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Grandi Annate is a freakishly ripe, exotic wine full of contradictions. Though texturally quite brilliant and polished, the fruit is excessively sweet, even within the most forgiving of parameters. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2025.
Silky and elegant, offering notes of red berries, orange peel and violets laced with hints of Indian spices, cedar and earth. Expressive and deep flavors mesh effortlessly with fine, longgrained tannins on the complex and persistent finish.
(85% Prugnolo Gentile/15% Cabernet Sauvignon) The grapes were from 10-35 year old vines planted on layers of clay, sand and limestone with alkaline top soils. The best estate fruit from Le Capezzine and I Poggetti was macerated on its skins for 20- 25 days in oak and aged for 30 months in new French barriques.
