Exhibits aromas of raspberry, blackberry, mint and black cherries. Vanilla and short bread cookie notes from oak aging bring balance and frame the ripe berry flavors. Napa Valley characteristics show through with strawberries, red raspberries and a faint root beer note with quintessential Oakville dark cherries. The tannins are fine and chalky.
Purple Wine was founded by Derek Benham in 2001. A second generation Californian, Derek Benham grew up in an agricultural environment in the great San Joaquin Valley. While working summers on his father's farm, he began to dream of building his own wine company. After the sale of two of his brands (Blackstone in 2001 & Mark West in 2012) to Constellation Brands, Derek has earned the reputation as a great brand builder in the wine industry.
Alex Cose studied finance and worked for Wells Fargo before a change of heart landed him an unpaid cellar rat job at Monticello Cellars in Napa. After a return to college, another couple of internships and a degree in Enology from Fresno State, at 27 he was cellar master at Peter Michael."Peter Michael was about knowing one piece of land extremely well," Alex says. "Now I get to work with fruit from everywhere. I want 100 spices in the spice rack, not two. The beauty of how we operate is that each year tends to lend itself to something new and interesting."
