Produced of 100% Shiraz from a single vineyard, the 2010 Carnival of Love was aged in American oak, 97% new. Very deep purple-black in color, it is intensely scented of blueberry preserves, creme de cassis and warm black cherries with an undercurrent of baking spices, licorice, mocha, vanilla, toast and eucalypt. Very full and densely packed with warm blackberry and spice flavors on the palate, it has a solid structure of medium to firm velvety tannins and very crisp acid, giving way to a very long finish. Still quite tight and primary, it should drink best 2014 to 2023+.
Wine Maker Notes
Sarah and Sparky Marquis, the winemaking couple behind Mollydooker, have established an impressive track record with the Carnival of Love Shiraz. The wine has been a Wine Spectator Top 100 selection four times since the 2006 vintage, its second release. The grapes come from the westernmost section of the Gateway Vineyard, the same site that produces the Mollydooker Shiraz Velvet Glove. Carnival is fermented in 100 percent new American oak barrels. 6,328 cases made.
Our whole family is involved in making our wines, and all the wonderful people who drink them become our friends, so we named this wine Carnival of Love, because the wines bring us together.
If you look closely you will notice that the Lefty characters are all included in the label and when you join the Carnival of Love and the Enchanted Path together, the two labels form one beautiful continuous love story.
The grapes were grown on the Gateway vineyard in McLaren Vale.
