94 Point James Suckling - "Fabulous aromas of blackberries, blueberries, licorice and cloves follow through to a full body, polished and caressing tannins, and a long, long finish. Needs a couple years to soften but extremely well-crafted."
92 Point Wine Advocate - "The Signature Series 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from two estate vineyards they own: the famous Monte Rosso Vineyard and the William Hill Estate Vineyard. This is a cross-valley blend of both Napa and Sonoma fruit. It’s 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot aged 20 months in 60% new oak (40% was French and 20% American) and 40% used barrels. A good wine with 15.3% natural alcohol, it is full-bodied with a dense, ruby/purple color, lots of asphalt, loamy volcanic soil and smoky notes, blueberry and blackberry fruit, a nice touch of camphor and a luscious, heady, slightly tannic mouthfeel and finish. This is serious wine and they produced 5,180 cases. It should age well for 15-20 years. "
For the “king of reds,” Gina looked to Napa Valley to craft a rich Cabernet Sauvignon. The addition of William Hill Estate Vineyard to our family’s collection of vineyards gave Gina the opportunity to work with Cabernet grapes from an extraordinary benchland property in southern Napa. Blending this Cabernet with Petit Verdot grapes from Monte Rosso, our legendary mountaintop vineyard in Sonoma Valley, Gina made a robust, elegant wine to complement the Burgundy-style varietals in the Gallo Signature Series.
Gina Gallo developed a deep respect for the land early on. At just 10 years old, she tended the gardens with her father and grandfather, picking fruits and vegetables that her mother and grandmother would turn into family meals. She spent her high school summers working alongside her brothers and sisters at our family winery.
After studying winemaking at the University of California at Davis, Gina became an apprentice winemaker at E. & J. Gallo Winery, under the careful guidance of her grandfather Julio. Soon, she completed her first full harvest in Sonoma County, working side by side with her brother Matt, who has grown the grapes for Gina’s wines for more than two decades. Today, as the winemaker behind our Gallo Signature Series, Gina carves out specific blocks on our most sought-after vineyards to hand craft limited batches of wine.
