(raised in small American oak barrels, 28% of them new): Inky ruby. Ripe cherry and plum aromas are complemented by notes of licorice and vanilla. Lush and seamless on the palate, offering pliant dark fruit flavors and showing a slight warmth on the back end. Finishes sweet and gently tannic, with a hint of bitter chocolate and good cling.

Personally, I think Justin Syrah is even better than the better-known Justin Cabs. Very smooth, but bold flavor. It works well with steak and such, but because it's a bit fruitier than the Cabs, can be server with other foods as well. Very versatile wine.

Notes on the Justin Vineyard Syrah 750ML 2009

Tasting Notes Appearance: Opaque core lightening to a pale purple-ruby rimAroma: Rich blackberry and boysenberry fruit with cracked black pepper, sweet vanilla, herbs and smokePalate: Full bodied and complex with a mix of bright blackberry and a little cherry fruit with dried herbs and smoked meat on the mid-palate. Finish Is long and complex with vibrant blackberry and cherry fruit, a bit of pepper, herbs and mineral notes surrounded by firm, but well balanced tannins.

Technical Notes 08/17/09 This wine is on the soft side with deep wild raspberry and blackberry tones that are framed with a note of moist earth and oak driven vanilla and spice tones. Definitely a bigger, richer style yet one that remains soft and supple if lacking much of the spice and meatiness of the grape
