Mastroberardino Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Rosso 2010
BOTTLE SIZE: 750ml
The name of this wine is rooted in biblical history. According to the legend, God cried when he found a corner of Heaven stolen by Lucifer: where his tears fell, there grew the grapes that make Lacryma Christi, translated as "tears of Christ." Made from 100% Piedirosso grapes grown in volcanic soil near Mount Vesuvius and fermented in stainless steel, this is a unique red wine-- youthful, but substantial.

Food Pairing Pair with pasta or polenta with meat-based sauces, red meats, and can even make a surprisingly great companion to grilled swordfish.

Additional Notes A wine with a prestigious name and origins lost in legend, which entranced the great Voltaire in 1700. The grape is Piedirosso, mentioned by Pliny two thousand years ago. It is grown, in soil rich in ash, in the area surrounding Vesuvius. The fiery passion of the land finds direct expression in the wine, even after long aging.
