This label honors the first California Cabernet blended in a Bordeaux-style done by Gustave Niebaum in 1910. This newly designed label and package are designated ’1910 type’ after one of the classic California blends of 1910. This is truly timeless quality in a classic blend style, available at a price my friends can afford.” —Francis Ford Coppola
The 2002 Black Label Claret reveals a deep garnet color and enticing aromas of dark chocolate, anise, and sweet spices. Rich, lively flavors of succulent blackberry, currant, and wild strawberry are wrapped in soft, smooth tannins.
2008 was a challenging vintage that delivered a very small crop as a result of spring frost that devastated many of the vines. In fact, some vineyards lost 50% of their fruit. The upside to having fewer grape clusters is the aromatics become more profound and flavors more concentrated and complex. Elegant and well-balanced, this year’s Claret displays lush fruit flavors, smooth tannins and intriguing spice nuances. Diamond Collection Claret pairs beautifully with beef tenderloin, grilled lamb chops or fettuccini with Gorgonzola cream sauce.
