Bright, fresh and direct, with cool, crisp red berry flavors and aromatic suggestions of earth and leather, this is a medium-bodied, forward wine with supple background tannins and a clean finish.
The original estate of Poggio Reale, from which much of the fruit is sourced and at which production takes place, covers 90 acres located in the area of Poggio Reale in the Chianti Rufina zone near the village of Rufina. This production is supplemented by grapes from other properties throughout the Chianti zone. Grapes are destemmed and crushed, and fermentation is initiated on the skins by natural yeasts and takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks over a period of seven days at 21° to 27° C (70° to 80° F). The wine then is racked into clean stainless steel and brought to 22° C (72° F) to naturally induce a full malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place in large Slavonian oak vats of 8,000 litres' capacity for a period of eight months.
