Rombauer Zinfandel 2010 750ml

Rombauer Zinfandel

This very ripe and somewhat sugary Zin seems destined to win as many detractors as fans, and, while we count ourselves with the latter as far as its balance and keen, fruity focus goes, it is so sweet as to stretch the limits of table wine definition. For all of its obvious sweetness, however, it remains surprisingly fruity and not unduly skewed to chocolate and heat, and it will serve as an uncommon but wholly satisfying companion to a platter of meal-ending cheeses." (September 2008) This is rich and vibrant zin from the makers of one of California's most popular chardonnays, blending fruit from some of California's top regions for the varietal: Amador, Napa, Lake and El Dorado. Juicy aromas and flavors of wild cherries and tangy cranberries spiked with black pepper and allspice keep you intrigued from first sniff to last sip. Ripe, medium-grained tannins round out the finish.

Opening with a burst, this wine boasts aromas of blackberry and boysenberry jam. On the palate, rich, juicy fruit loaded with ripe wild berries, plum, fig and black cherry flavors. Supple tannins and smooth oak notes show in the lush, mouth-filling finish. Our favorite pairings for this wine include braised short ribs over wild mushroom risotto, pizza, and pork tenderloin.

The tongue flavors were warm and full of ripe blackberries and cherry. A very mellow, well rounded wine with a slightly sweet/jammy flavor. Hints of chocolate and vanilla rounded out a velvety finish and the soft tannins really made this a fabulous drinking red.

Loved this 2010 Rombauer Zin. A real easy drinker all by itself but it's even better with some spicy food.
