Notes on the Ninquen Syrah Antu 750ML 2010

Wine Maker Notes Grapes were handpicked in the third week of April 2003. After de-stemming, whole berries underwent maceration and fermentation, the juice remaining in contact with the skins for 25-28 days. The resulting wine was aged approximately 18 months in new French oak barrels, then bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve fruit concentration, color and intense aromas.

Low yield. Eighteen months in oak. Ripe, concentrated, plummy, full-bodied. ------------------------------------------ Parker's Wine Bargains 2010 Antu Ninquen Syrah - A Best Value, Parker's Wine Bargains------------------------------------------Offers up cedar, wood smoke, scorched earth, and blueberry aromas that jump from the glass. The 2007 is potent and minty on the nose, with big fruit and pastry accents. After it settles it delivers rich, deep, dark flavors with herb, mint, spice, pepper and cardamon accents. Intriguing New World Syrah. Big and lusty. ------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator January/February 2009 89 Points Top Values 2008------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator January/February 2009 88 Points Top Values 2008------------------------------------------ Santé January 2009 Antu Ninquen Syrah 2005 - Sante------------------------------------------Black cherry, licorice, and leather aromas with ripe fig, black currant, and black tea flavors. Purple-colored, the nose offers up cedar, wood smoke, scorched earth and blueberry aromas that jump from the glass. On the palate, it has attractive, savory flavors but is slightly compressed and tight. ------------------------------------------ Wine Enthusiast ------------------------------------------Our reviews fro this fruit-bomb of a Syrah have been consistent over the years. The wine is intense and grapy, and it gives your palate a pounding as it delivers boysenberry and other rich black-fruit flavors. Heavy oak treatment results in coffee and chocolate on the back end. Good in a muscular way, but would benefit from more refinement and structure.------------------------------------------ International Wine Review April 2008 90 Points ------------------------------------------Vina Montgras began operations in 1992 in the Colchagua Valley, one of Chile's best winemaking regions southwest of Santiago. Vineyard management and winemaking are state-of-the-art. This is a beautiful wine that shows what a top Chilean producer can do with Syrah! Opaque in color and beautifully concentrated, this bottling boasts a ripe nose of dried dark fruit, plum, and leather. The lush attack is rich and soft with dark chocolate and black fruit flavors. The tannins are round and integrated. This high quality wine is also reasonably priced.------------------------------------------ Wine Enthusiast March 2008 88 Points ------------------------------------------If you like yours big and burly, this 14.6% Syrah (with 12% Cabernet) is dark and luxe, with good natural acidity to balance out the alcohol and untamed plum, berry jam and chocolate flavors. A forceful wine with no dead weight.------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate July 1, 2007 ------------------------------------------The 2005 Antu Ninquen Syrah has 12% Cabernet Sauvignon added to the blend. The wine was aged for 18 months in French and American oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Purple-colored, the wine offers a spicy perfume of pepper, leather, earth and blackberry. Firmly structured, this full-bodied wine has good flavors and balance but will require several years in the bottle to fully express itself.------------------------------------------ Critics Challenge International Wine Competition ------------------------------------------ Luxury Web April 2007 93 Points The Oeno File - Best wines tasted in 2006------------------------------------------Luscious wine created from grapes grown on Ninquen Mountain in Chile's Colchagua Valley. A brooding, rich purple color. nose: very spicy with black and white pepper, saddle leather, cigarbox and clove with hints of ripe black fruit and vanilla from the oak. Full-bodied, harmonious. well structured mellow tannins. Intense fruit leading to a long finish. An excellent wine with heavier meats and game. ------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator January 15, 2007 87 Points ------------------------------------------A juicy, plush, forward style, with lots of blackberry and black cherry fruit laced with mocha, mineral and briar notes. Drink now through 2008.------------------------------------------
