Forstreiter Gruner Veltliner Tabor

History:Currently our winery, which has been in possession of our family since 1868, cultivates 54ha of vines. Our home village Hollenburg-a district of the city of Krems- is a traditional winegrowing village and belongs to the winegrowing redion Kremstal. It is historically proven that already since 400A.C.-the liftime of St. Severin- wine has been produced in our village. Soil: Most of our vineyards are located on south or east-facing terraces with soils called "Hollenburger conglomerate"(=metamorphic soils based on primary rock) topped with layers of loess in varying thickness. In connection with the special micro climate this terroir provides uniquely fruit-driven and spicy-peppery mountain wines. Varietals:Our white varietals are Grüner Veltliner,Riesling,Muskateller, Sauvingnon Blanc. Our red varieteals include Zweigelt, St.Laurent Vinification: Our vinification methods are technically furthest advanced. The grapes are pressed carfully by whole cluster pressing method and they are fermentd temperature-controlled under absolutely sparkling clean conditions. What we get for our efforts are fruit-driven, elegant wines, clearly expressive of their variety. We produce exclusively dry wines. On occasion of very special vintages we also vinify sweet and noble sweet wines. Highest-awarded winery of the city of Krems
