The congancs produced on the Ile de Re come form a small number of vineyards handed down through generations of Retais. Planted with single grape variety.Ugni blanc that produces a wine with two essential features for a good distillation a high acidity level and a low alcohol content.
Above and beyond its mastery of the distillation process, Maison CAMUS also pays particular attention to the barrels in which its Cognacs are aged. These French oak barrels are toasted to provide a variety of aromas, ranging from a hint of vanilla to roasted coffee.For Ile de Re Double Matured the cellar master uses specific barrels with a higher toast level than the standard to strengthen the Cognac’s smoky, masculine nature. These barrels are also known as ’roux’ barrels.
