Notes on the Feudi di San Gregorio Falanghina 750ML 2011

Tasting Notes The color is straw yellow that contains brilliant green reflections. The perfume is intense and persistent with sensations of delicate white flowers and fruit. The taste offers freshness and balance, with a clean finish.

Wine Maker Notes Grape bunches are hand-harvested into 18 kilo crates during the latter half of September. The crates are then transported in refrigerated trucks (50º F) to the winery. Bunches are individually selected and soft-pressed followed by cold settling at 57˚F for 24-48 hours. The juice is cold-fermented in stainless steel vats.

The balance and tart, clean finish speaks to both grilled vegetables and soup.------------------------------------------ Wine Review Online March 10, 2009 90 Points Falanghina 2007 - 90 Points, Wine Review Online------------------------------------------Crisp and fresh, with a floral bouquet, this Falanghina exemplifies the high quality white wines now coming from Campania--a region famous for whites in antiquity but ever since better known for sturdy reds. Those ancient wines, however, were 'seasoned' with pitch and resin, and invariably tasted oxidized, a flavor profile valued then but certainly disparaged by most people today. Happily, there is nothing old-fashioned about the taste of this wine. Its clean, bright character marks it as deliciously modern. ------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator February 16, 2009 Falanghina 2007 - Wine Spectator------------------------------------------I found an old friend on the wine list. I knew Feudi di San Gregorio Falanghina 2007 ($36) had the crisp balance to cut through the unctuous pasta, the vivid fruit flavors to wake up our palates and the polished texture to make it all sing happily. It's one of my go-to Italian whites, and it did not disappoint, a faint tropical fruit character adding extra charm to the zingy citrus and mineral flavors that characterize the grape.------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator January/February 2009 90 Points ------------------------------------------Top Values 2008------------------------------------------ Wine Enthusiast October 2008 87 Points ------------------------------------------There's a very attractive ashen quality to this wine that sits like a veil over a base of stone fruit, honey and pear. The mineral notes come from Campania's rich volcanic soils and this Falanghina does a great job of portraying the variety. ------------------------------------------ Wine Advocate August 31, 2008 86 Points & Best Value Falanghina 2007------------------------------------------Feudi di San Gregorio is a reliable producer of contemporary-styled wines from Campania. While not always the most exciting wines from the region, the average level of quality is commendable for such a large operation. The 2007 Falanghina Sannio is very representative of this native grape. Sweet, perfumed aromatics, crisp green apples and minerals all make an appearance as this tasty, accessible white opens in the glass. Light to medium in body, it is ideally enjoyed as an aperitif or alongside delicate appetizers.------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator Insider June 25, 2008 90 Points & Smart Buy Falanghina 2007 - 90 Points, Wine Spectator Insider------------------------------------------Falanghina is an ancient grape that flourishes in the volcanic soils of the Campania region. Aromas of banana, cream, and mango follow through to a full body, with lots of fruit and a long finish.------------------------------------------ Beverage Analyst November 2006 Campania - An Italian Wine Region Ripe for Discovery ------------------------------------------The elegant, medium-bodied wine has intense aromas of apple, banana and pineapple along with a lingering aftertaste of citrus and minerals.------------------------------------------ Gazette May 2006 ------------------------------------------A house favorite before we even opened this year's vintage. Exotic notes of grapefruit; where's the red snapper!------------------------------------------ American Way May 1, 2006 Breaking Bread with Jean-Georges------------------------------------------Lobster thermidor arrives next, a rich, fat portion of lobster tail browned to perfection in the superbroiler. It’s paired with a unique Falanghina Feudi San Gregorio from Campania, Italy, and our taste buds are shocked and awed.------------------------------------------ Philadelphia Inquirer May 29, 2005 Coon Campanian------------------------------------------This one from Feudi di San Gregorio - one of the leading wineries in Campania - is a great drink for spring, with exotic aromas of pineapple and almond focused by a crisp tartness and a long finish that matches well with seafood or poultry. ------------------------------------------ Wine Spectator Jan. 31 - Feb. 29, 2004 Editors' Picks------------------------------------------My favorite for the money is the full-bodied Falanghina, with its exotic flavors of honey-suckle, melon and peach.------------------------------------------
