Dark violet in color, with a ruby robe. The nose is pretty intriguing in light of its price point. Most lower tier, value reds out of Argentina can be pretty one-dimensional both aromatically and on the palate. So the initial aromatic impression is a strong indication that this wine has some complexity to it. Here the nose offers up some interesting notes, a light floral lift then a savory earth tone following, with subtle spice and herbal inflections and a touch of licorice that flows into dark red fruits, currant, black cherry and dark raspberry. The nose plays the savory fruit interplay nicely. The palate is quite engaging, with a burst of darker red fruits mirroring the nose that are nuanced with some savory lighter herbal tones. Medium fuller to fuller bodied, this really spreads out nicely across the mid palate with a little aeration, the tannins having no angular edges to them and the fruit has good ripeness without being to forward or over the top. The end result a wine that is packed with flavor, possessing a smoother textural feel, giving suppleness with just enough grip on the back end to keep everything focused. This screams value and should drink beautifully over the next couple of years quite easily.
Grapes are gently destemmed and then undergo cold maceration for 3 days. The must is fermented at low temperatures for a slow gradual fermentation. The juice undergoes extensive cap management during the first 5 days of cold maceration and fermentation to avoid the extraction of any dry, astringent seed tannins. Fermentation is finished with soft gentle pumping overs for another 6 days. With an intense and dark violet color, the nose presents aromas of sweet spices and ripe dark fruits, with notes of mint and eucalyptus from the Cabernet Sauvignon, combined with raspberry jam and red fruits from the other varietals. In the mouth, full and complex, with a silky texture and lengthy finish.
