A medium to dark cloudy garnet in the glass, this wine smells beautifully of black cherry, cola, and espresso. In the mouth it offers silky smooth black cherry and cola flavors with glassy tannins that linger in a very nice finish. The new oak used on this wine has not entirely integrated, but it thankfully is restrained rather than dominant. Worth saving a couple of years to let it develop in the bottle.

A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot, the outstanding 2010 Artistry is a strong effort from this winery which seems to have been forgotten once Leslie Rudd purchased the home vineyards and converted them into Rudd Estate. It exhibits lots of creme de cassis and blue fruits intermixed with hints of barbecue spice, charcoal and forest floor. This complex, full-bodied, impressively endowed 2010 offers low acidity, velvety tannins and a layered, opulent texture. Enjoy this beauty now and over the next 10-15 years. It is also a heck of a value.

Notes on the Girard Artistry 750ML 2010

Wine Maker Notes Our 2010 Artistry has aromas of toasted hazelnuts and festive Christmas spices. Boysenberries and currants saturate the palate aside flavors of exotic bing cherries. Well-structured tannins round out this vintage with a beautiful, tobacco and spice finish. Enjoy this wine with your favorite cut of meat or a tasty spaghetti with marinara.

Technical Notes This Hill Vineyard can be best characterized as hot, with full sun most of the day and cold in the morning with the westerly breezes off the Pacific Coastline. The Hill is the most northwest facing of all the terraces. From this terrace, you can see right up the heart of Napa Valley and all the way to the coastal ranges.

Tucked away at the far southeastern corner of Napa County, and virtually unknown, is the Blue Ridge Vineyard on Mt. Vaca. Never heard of it? Not surprising. Unknown to many, Blue Ridge has the distinction of being the highest vineyard in the Valley, cresting at 2,810 feet. This elevation produces grapes with unusual character, where the vines ripen slowly, maturing the flavors. Sold exclusively to Girard from the Harris family, some of the Zinfandel vines date back 35 years.
