Here’s the poster child for a massive Howell Mountain Cabernet. Made from 100% Cabernet, it shows the concentrated intensity of mountain fruit, with a molten core of blackberry essence, cassis liqueur, cola and spice flavors, liberally oaked and wrapped into gorgeously thick but fine tannins. So delicious now, it’s hard to wait, but this wine is a guaranteed ager. The window is 2018-2020, at the very least. - Cellar Selection
Displaying deep, dark garnet color and lovely aromas of marion berry, bramble, chocolate plum and all-spice; the palate is lush and concentrated with boysenberry, cassis, anise and semisweet chocolate. Rewarding now, this wine will continue to evolve and delight for 5-10 years.
Wine Maker Notes
The HALL Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of special lots from our estate vineyards along with esteemed fruit from our premiere Napa Valley vineyard partners. Our focus, from vine to glass, is to deliver a dense, supple Cabernet Sauvignon that consistently over-delivers. As we strive to achieve this, vintage after vintage, we uphold rigorous organic small-vine farming practices in each of our vineyards and meticulous time-honored techniques in our state-of-the-art winemaking facilities. Our commitment must be unparalleled and our standards unrelenting at each and every phase throughout the growing season and winemaking process.
This is a thrilling set of wines from Hall. The estate favors a rich, extroverted style, yet all of these wines have distinct personalities and tons of sheer character. Meticulous viticulture followed by native yeast fermentations, slow, natural malos and minimal rackings are at the heart of the approach at Hall. The wines are aged in French oak (mostly Taransaud, 40-90% new) and are bottled with no fining or filtration. Readers who appreciate the more opulent side of Napa Valley will find much to admire here. Simply put, I was blown away by what I tasted. As outstanding as the 2009s are, there is a very good chance the 2011s will turn out to be even better.
