The name Jema derives from the Italian word “gemma,” which has a dual meaning of “the bud on a vine” and “precious gem.” The grapes for this wine are hand harvested and dried in crates for 20 days, after which the wine is fermented on the skins in stainless steel. Following 18 months of aging in French oak barriques, the wine is further aged for 6 months in large oak casks and 12 months in bottle.
