The depth and richness of our Contra Costa Zinfandel is immediately apparent in its dark ruby color. Heady aromas of molasses, cane sugar and cocoa drape over black cherry and cassis. Across the palate, the fruit deepens, developing dark, jammy layers. A lively pepper minerality, distinctive to the soils of this region, balances the richness of the fruit. The layering of flavors and full-bodied richness of this complex wine pairs nicely with roasted meats and winter stews.
One of the oldest winegrowing regions in the state, Contra Costa County is home to ancient, gnarly vines deeply rooted in sandy loam soils. The warm days are influenced by cool delta breezes that give this area a distinct ripe-fruit profile, highlighted by pepper and chocolate spices. To create a Zinfandel representative of this unique region, we used a blend of fruit from five vineyards in Contra Costa County, combining old, head-pruned vines with newer plantings of Zinfandel to build layers of flavor and depth.
Pair this dark, hedonistic Zinfandel with rich dishes, such as roasted or barbecued meats, sausage ragout, or pasta with rich tomato sauce.
