California's fun, lively, affordable take on a classic white Bordeaux, Simi blends in a small amount of Sémillon to add mid-palate richness to an otherwise crisp, bright Sauvignon Blanc. In your glass the wine is straw-colored with slight emerald hints, mirrored on the nose by aromas of lime, honeydew, fresh cut grass and fig. On the palate it's decidedly citrusy, incorporating lemon, lime, tangerine and grapefruit flavors with a vein of mineral and green apple. Enjoy with a blood orange, shaved fennel and pistachio salad.
Take the opportunity to see how the warmer Alexander Valley lends itself to Sauvignon Blanc that is silkier and more tropical than what you might expect from this grape.
The winemaker has added 5% sémillon to the blend and this gives the wine more weight, and accounts for it’s plump, rich mouthfeel without in any way compromising the sauvignon blanc’s inherent crispness. This is the combination used to make the whites of Bordeaux but rarely do the Bordelaise pull it off with such aplomb, at least at such a modest price.
