The Sawbuck Malbec has enticing aromas of blackberry and chocolate raspberry layered over black pepper spice and leather. Concentrated flavors of black cherry, mocha and smoky vanilla are supported by soft dusty tannins and hints of rustic blueberry rhubarb cobbler. Well balanced and elegant, this wine is a unique alternative to cabernet sauvignon or merlot. It is the perfect wine for melt-in- your-mouth barbequed baby back ribs.
Juicy dark berry notes are joined by aromas of spiced oak, vanilla and baked cherries. Undertones of earth meet medium-firm tannins and bright acids on the persistent finish.
(76% Malbec/12% Tempranillo/6% Syrah/6% Cabernet Sauvignon). Estate-grown Malbec grapes were harvested in two passes. 10% of the free run juice from fruit harvested during the first pass was bled off and fermented with ES 488 and native yeast. Cabernet Sauvignon from Chalk Hill and Tempranillo and Syrah from Dunnigan Hills add richness and depth. After blending, the wine aged in American and French oak barrels for 18 months.
