The 2011 Max Reserva Carmenere displays a bright, lively cherry color and a clean nose with subtle leafy notes. It is austere, spicy, balsamic minty and silky, with polished tannins and balanced acidity. With its good balance between ripeness and herbaceousness, this is very drinkable. Carmenere needs to ripen, but not to get overripe. Drink 2014-2018.
The wine presents notes of spice and black pepper that are highlighted by hints of toasty oak. Silky tannins and pleasing, well-balanced acidity leads to the refreshing finish.
Fruit from Max V, VI and VII Vineyards was crushed and fermented in stainless steel with pump overs twice per day. Post-fermentation maceration lasted 10-36 days depending on the development of each lot, and the wine was aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels, of which 18% were new.
