Wine Maker Notes
Maturana Tinta is a native and exclusive varietal of Rioja that was rescued from extinction in recent years. Highly susceptible to botrytis, it is a difficult grape to work with, and thus found in very small quantities throughout the region. Dinastia Vivanco’s Coleccion Vivanco Maturana Tinta is produced in small quantities during the best vintages. Grapes are hand-harvested from Estate-owned vineyards and then cooled prior to destemming and pressing. Vinified in French oak vats, the wine was then transferred by gravity to new and second-use French oak barrels where it was aged for 14 months on the lees undergoing malolactic fermentation in the process. Maturana Tinta is characterized by black fruit and spice, particularly peppercorns and cloves, and undertones of earth and minerals. It shows balsamic flavors on the long, vibrant finish.
