The result is a golden coloured Pinot Gris, with a very refined, floral nose, and ripe yellow fruits, citrus fruits and honey. In the mouth the complexity of the soils and the barrel vinification is felt through a fresh, vibrant wine combining a full body and a dry personality.
Wine Maker Notes
Domaine ostertag’s Pinot Gris barriques is a blend of different plots with various soils and subsoils, all from the village of Epfig, like all the Vins de Fruit. 40% of the vines are on clay and limestone, 45% on pebbles ans 15% on schist. The whole vineyard is farmed using biodynamic principles and the Pinot Gris barriques has both Organic and Biodynamic certifications. The complexity of the soil origins is felt in the wine, and is enhanced by the vinification in oak barrels which is a speciality at the domaine.
Best served at around 10°C, it will suit white meats, fish, aged cheese but is also a perfect aperitif wine. It has a good aging potential (around 7 years in a good cellar) though it is meant to be drunk in its youth.
