Les Pierres Vineyard consistently produces wines that rank among the world's finest-what some would call noble wines. Such world-class stars just don't happen, of course; site, viticulture, winemaking and even Mother Nature all play a role in ensuring that a wine is of exceptional quality.
The most significant factor in a noble wine, however, is the vineyard's terroir. Located on the eastern slope of Sonoma Mountain, Les Pierres' terroir is predominantly defined by its soils, which are replete with rock and cobblestones. The stones are volcanic, eroded over the years from the Sonoma Mountain volcano, and deposited over the past two million years at Les Pierres. Consequently, wines made from Les Pierres grapes possess flinty, mineral aromas and distinctive flavors that are present vintage after vintage.
