The fruit is sourced from 70+ year old vines from seven vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, one of the coolest growing areas in Rioja. The Tempranillo, Graciano and Garncha grapes are trodden by foot in shallow stone vats. Fermentation occurred in large, open-top wood vats, after which the wine aged for 18 months in large oak casks and smaller barrriques.
