Powers whiskey is named for James Power, who founded his distillery in 1791 and whose son (John) followed in his footsteps.
Powers Signature Release Irish Whiskey was first launched in September, 2013. In the press release, they note that the whiskey is aged in ex-bourbon barrels with a blend of aged whiskey from Spanish Oloroso sherry casks (a very common practice in scotch whisky aging). - See more at: http://www.proof66.com/whiskey/powers-signature-release-irish-whiskey.html#sthash.64hRsZjR.dpuf
