I would not have been offered a taste of Domaine Serenes entry-level (though still pricey) cuvee during my recent visit had I not asked for it, and in reply I received three installments, beginning with the 2010 Pinot Noir Yamhill Cuvee. Tart cherry with a smoky overlay presents a clean, juicy impression, conveying genuine refreshment in a sustained if simple finish. This exuberant exemplar of vintage virtues ought to remain delightful for several years.
This cuvee is billed as the ’little sister’ to the winery’s Evenstad Reserve, and the flavors fit the title. There is a pleasing roundness and an immediate accessibility, with flavors of red fruit and light chocolate in the foreground. Brambly berries are at the core, with highlights of malted milkshake, spice and a hint of finishing citrus.
Wine Maker Notes
Consistent from vintage to vintage as the “little sister” of the Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir, the Yamhill Cuvee Pinot Noir is a blend from each of our vineyard sites that results in a vibrant, food friendly Pinot Noir. This wine has an aroma profile that consists of red fruit, minerality, sweet and complex spice, earth and a hint of French oak. The palate offers youthful tannins and balanced acidity which lead to a smooth and graceful finish. The Yamhill Cuvee is approachable in its youth while maintaining the elegance and finesse of a Domaine Serene Pinot Noir.
