Decoy Chardonnay 2013 750ml

Decoy Chardonnay

This fresh and attractive wine displays aromas of whiteflowers, green apple with hints of exotic grapefruit, guava, flint, and wet stone. There is great flavor impact on the palate with fresh and lively acidity, it is ideal for youthful enjoyment. Due to a wet spring and mild growing season the 2013 harvest started 2 weeks later than we would normally expect. Later, milder seasons tend to result in wines of fine elegance and balanced natural acidity. This is exactly what we see in our white wines and the best reds from superior locations.

This wine has inviting orange blossom and honey aromas with a hint of rich creme brulee. On the palate, lush tropical flavors and a creamy texture lead to a soft, round mid-palate with bright, refreshing acidity, adding length and focus to the abundant fruit.

Like all of our Decoy wines, our Decoy Sonoma County Chardonnay benefits from the passion, skill and experience of our Duckhorn Wine Company team. Exploring the diversity of the Sonoma County winegrowing region allows our winemaking team greater flexibility during the blending process. Stretching from Cloverdale to Annapolis to San Pablo Bay, Sonoma County encompasses an array of microclimates, soil types, elevations, and terroirs, yielding a unique and appealing expression of Chardonnay.

With experience spanning two continents and numerous winegrowing regions, Don LaBorde has established himself as a master of multiple grape varieties. This extensive knowledge, and Don’s enthusiasm and personable nature, take center stage at Decoy, where Don relishes the camaraderie and collaborative approach of working with a world-class winemaking team. Alongside this team, Don makes wines that express their full charm and complexity in their youth, while also offering an unparalleled intersection between value and quality.

Though born and raised in Louisiana, Don gained an international perspective on winemaking by earning his wine science degree from Australia’s Charles Sturt University—one of the world’s most respected viticulture and enology schools. At Charles Sturt, Don was selected for the prestigious assistant research winemaker position at Australia’s National Wine and Grape Industry Center, where he honed his skills with multiple grape varieties.
