The historic California drought continued into the 2015 vintage making for a light crop with intense flavors. Mild dry weather with cool nights extended the growing season, producing Chardonnay with excellent structure and crisp acidity. After harvest, three quarters of the juice was fermented in French and European oak and aged on the lees for six months to add viscosity and complexity to the blend. The remaining juice was fermented in stainless steel to retain a fresh natural flavor. After fermentation, barrel lots used in the blend underwent a secondary malolactic fermentation to enhance the rich, round flavors. This refreshing Chardonnay is enjoyable as anaperitif and as an accompaniment to fresh greens, chicken and seafood dishes.Combining grapes from the cool climate regions ofsouthern Sonoma Valley and the Russian RiverValley, Kenwood's Sonoma County Chardonnaynicely balances the classic fruit flavors of thisvarietal with subtle notes of French oak aging.Sonoma County is our cherished land. Located in the Northwest of the San Francisco Bay Area region in California, it stretches from 60 miles of Pacific Coast in the west to the steep slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains in the east. We live, work and sweat this land where the climate is strongly influenced by the presence of the ocean. Together with the elevation of our rolling hills, the Pacific influence generates a wide array of microclimates within our region. This amazing variety of microclimates, the broad palette of terroirs it creates and its almost 60,000 acres of vineyards make Sonoma County an extraordinarily special, yet relatively undiscovered area for winegrowing. It is an appellation that has its place among the world's top winegrowing regions, and one about which we are incredibly passionate.
